Ladies and gentlemen, yesterday (24/06/18) was a very sad and dark day in the world of Helstonbury. Fellow organiser and long standing friend Alan Rideout sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer. His life long commitment to live music and in particular his tireless dedication to mentoring young musicians was unlimited. So many musicians, young and old, have been encouraged and inspired by Al to pursue their musical dreams.
His “Kids Like to Rock” night, an introduction to Helstonbury, has, over the years, helped produce our very own young musicians, giving them invaluable experience of performing live at such a young age. some of them have now established careers in music.
On a personal note Al was my rock and man of wisdom, his guidance, support and belief in the festival each year gave me the confidence to explore new boundaries and take it to another level. Al has left behind a legacy which touched everyone who met him, he will live on in us all.
Thank you for the music, RIP my friend x
